Introduction
NIHONGO COSMOS is a volunteer group formed in 1994. Since then the group has provided Japanese language training to foreigners
from many countries.
In each class, a Japanese volunteer teacher works with a small group of learners (usually 2-3 people)who have similar level of
proficiency in Japanese.
NIHONGO COSMOS classes provide a fun and interactive environment for foreigners living in Japan to learn Japanese and
also to meet and get to know local people.

For children
NIHONGO COSMOS offers Japanese language training to students who are attending Elementary or Junior High Schools in Kamakura and Zushi area.
Children who are experiencing difficulty at school because of their foreign background can apply for this type support
after consulting with their school.
Other activities
<Works>
Every year learners write a short essay about their life in Japan, family home country or any other similar subjects.
These essays are published in COSMOS yearbooks.
Learners are expected to make a speech at the COSMOS year-end party to practice their speaking skills.
<Social Events>
Every year in early December, NIHONGO COSMOS volunteers and learners get together in a social event to mark the end of the
year with their families.Learners make a short speech or read their essays during this event.Every learner brings a dish,preferably
some ethnic food, to share with others.Learners are encouraged to wear their traditional costumes and show their talents by singing,
dancing,etc.The year-end party is an opportunity for everyone to get to know each other better and learn about other cultures
while having a wonderful time.
